A printable travel checklist for life with IBD

A one-page packing and planning list for trips with Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis. It covers the bits that are easy to forget when you’re busy: a spare clothes kit, paperwork, chargers, where the restrooms are, and questions to ask your care team before you go.

Prints on one page, US Letter or A4.
How people use it
  1. Start a week or two out

Print it early and work down the “before you go” list while there’s still time to ask questions.

  2. Pack with it

Tick things off as you pack. Cross out what doesn’t apply and add your own in the blank lines.

  3. Keep it in your bag

Fold it into your carry-on so the contact and insurance details are with you.

How to use the checklist

It’s a packing and planning list, not a set of rules. Every trip is different, so cross out what doesn’t fit and use the blank lines for your own things.

  • Start early. The “questions to ask my care team” box works best a week or two before you leave, while there’s time to get answers. Anything about your medication, your health or what to do while you’re away is a question for your care team.
  • Keep the important bits with you. The checklist puts medication, prescriptions, care team contacts and insurance details in your carry-on, so they stay with you if a bag goes missing.
  • Plan restrooms like a route. Many people look up restrooms at the airport, station or venue ahead of time, and note rest stops on a long drive.
  • Bring a card. Our free restroom request card prints four to a page and fits in a wallet.

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation has a page on traveling with IBD with more ideas, including finding restrooms and care while you’re away. For an appointment before a trip, our care team visit sheet has room for your questions and the answers.
